How To Crack An MBA Interview?

November 19th, 2020 Online MBA

Apart from cracking the GMAT/MAT/CAT examinations there is also an additional hurdle in securing your dream course. The interview is the last mechanism to determine whether you clearly fit into the course and also last step to know the candidate well. This is an excellent way to test your personality and attitude.

The interview panel tries to figure out your interests, aspirations, accomplishments and what kind of personality you are.

The Must Know Questions

“Speak About Yourself”, “How MBA helps to achieve your goal”, “how you would be a boon to our college”, “your strengths and weaknesses”, “your previous work experience and your job role” ,” why do you choose this institute” , “how would you advance your career with the MBA”, “your source of inspiration” ,” describe an ideal company, job and location”, “how would you define success” are the must know questions. You always need to have answers to these questions ready in your mind before you attend the interview.

Remember the interview might long for 20 min to 1 hr. Its important to always have something ready to be spoken at the tip of tour tongue for 1 hour. So, its equally important to speak as much as you can on things that you know well. You are the showstopper and its important to keep the panel engaged with the kind of answers you give.

It’s also prominent that panel members might interrupt you while answering another member. In such cases you need to finish answering the first properly before jumping to the next.

If you are preparing for an international MBA, its also important to get used to the language slang of that location. Else the interview will have a tragic end with your name not in the selected list.

Be Polite

Its important that you need to politely answer all the questions. A polite ‘No’ also sounds good in case of refusal or disagreement.

Be thorough with your CV

Its important to by heart your CV before the interview. Remember the questions being asked are just an extended version of what’s written in your CV. Disagreement with any item in the CV at the point of the interview is extremely bad and gives a negative impact during the selection process.

Positive approach

Your body language, your sense of humour, communication skills etc should inculcate a positivity. A formal sitting posture and a pleasant nature is enough to demonstrate your positive approach.

Be honest

The interviewer expects honest answers instead of bluffing. Remember its easier to speak out a natural story than a cooked-up story. Also, a dishonest answer is easily caught by an interview panel through the weird gestures, eye movements and various other body languages. So, you need to be honest to yourself and the panel. A genuine ‘NO’ is better than an arrogant ‘YES’ to prevent unlikely questions.

Be confident

The spirit of confidence should drive the interview till the end. Every gesture, every reaction, every line spoken should reflect the confidence within you. Be confident that you will be able to get through till the end.

Stay calm and patient

Do not be stressed. If there are questions that seems to provoke or irritate you, just remember that you are undergoing a stress interview and remain calm. Be patient enough and prove that you are a good listener too.Be patient until the interviewer finishes the question till the end only after which you are supposed to begin answering.
