Brief History
Established in 1970 at Edmonton, the main campus was shifted to the present location – Athabasca in 1984. More than 265,000 admissions have been registered so far since the launch of the college. The Online MBA program was launched in 1994 for working professionals and executives and was the first of its kind at that period.
Overview
As the name of the program suggests the AU Online MBA program is specifically crafted to the needs of working professionals. The university offers a 24 hrs online format scheme that enables students, and help students efficiently manage the work-study scenario with ease. The curriculum focuses on the very integral aspects of management covering marketing, analytics, human resources, strategy, IT, finance and operations and is taught in a highly interactive mode.
Accreditation
AU is a highly respected university with proven reputation in both Canada and the United States. The University is approved by the Government of Alberta, Canada. The Athabasca Governing Council (Government authorized) is in charge of the University Governance and granting of degrees. AU gained accreditation in the US in 2006 via Middle States commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). No other Canadian Public University has earned this reputation prior to AU.
Admission Requirements
The applicants should satisfy any one of the 3 requirements to apply for the AU Online MBA program and they are:
- Undergraduate degree with minimum managerial experience of 3 years. OR
- Professional designation with minimum managerial experience of 5 years. OR
- Progressively responsible managerial experience (8 years)

Program Framework
The student intakes for a particular year are organized in to Winter, Spring and Fall. The program consists of total 48 credits. The online MBA for executive’s program structure is classified in to Phase One and Phase Two. Phase One comprises of 6 foundational courses and Comprehensive exam. The courses are listed below:

The course fee payment can be accomplished via two schemes or routes and they are Applied Project Route and Course based Route. The course fee for the Applied Project Route and Course based Route comprises of Application fee, Admission fee, Phase One course fee and Phase Two course fee.

Online Post Baccalaureate Diploma for Management
Post Baccalaureate Diploma for Management or PBDM is a foundational Diploma course in Management. It serves as a stand-alone program. Students may attempt for the same after pursuing the Phase One courses followed by comprehensive exams. The admission requirements in connection with PBDM are exactly the same as the full-length online MBA for executives program. The course fee for PDBA is $18,586 and this includes the Application fee and Admission fee.
